An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More)

House of Dracula, the 1945 Erle C. Kenton Universal vampire monster horror thriller ("All new... All together!"; "Frankenstein's Monster, Wolf Man, Dracula, Mad Doctor, Hunchback"; the seventh Universal Frankenstein movie, and this was the second "all-star" movie, a sequel of sorts to "House of Frankenstein", with all of its best monsters brought together in a single movie!) starring Lon Chaney Jr. (as Lawrence Talbot/The Wolf Man), Martha O'Driscoll, John Carradine (as Count Dracula), Lionel Atwill, Onslow Stevens (taking over the role of The Mad Doctor from Boris Karloff), Glenn Strange (as Frankenstein's monster, uncredited on the "House of Frankenstein" posters, and credited here, but still not receiving the credit he deserved!), Jane Adams (as the hunchback nurse; oddly, she was sometimes billed by Universal as "Poni Adams"!), and Ludwig Stossel. Note that once again Universal has an extremely politically incorrect "hunchback" as a monster on par with Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Wolf Man, but in "House of Frankenstein", the hunchback was a man, and in this movie, the hunchback is a beautiful woman and a key plot point is that the mad doctor will "make her beautiful" by surgically fixing her hunch back!

Important Added Info: Note that this is a rare poster that we have only auctioned three times, and the last time was 19 years ago! Likely the rarity of the poster is because the movie not only had a 1950 re-release, but also a 1950s military re-release, and those two quick re-releases likely caused the original paper to be used up or destroyed.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had paper loss at the bottom two crossfolds, with small tears between the top and bottom crossfolds and a few small tears and tiny bits of paper loss on the other folds. Its blank borders had been trimmed off. It had triangular paper loss in the top right corner extending into the background next to the monster's head and it had paper loss in the "T" of "MONSTER", extending above it and to the right of it, with a tear beneath that extending into the monster's nose. It had paper loss in the top left background area, caused by rough removal of pins. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed many years ago, and the restorer did not want to use lots of restoration paint, so you can still see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. The poster was displayed for many years, and the red in the girl's dress has slightly faded. If you are the sort of person who does not mind that you can tell that a poster is nearly 75 years old and was used in a theater, then you will likely be happy to display this poster! If you want your posters to look "perfect", then you would surely want to have this poster re-backed (which certainly could be done). Please look closely at our super-sized image and read what is written above before bidding on this poster.
