Date Sold 5/1/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Muscle Up a Little Closer, the 1957 Jules White wrestling sports ventriloquism slapstick comedy short ("Hilarious? Better than ever!"; "The one... the only Joe Besser adds a new comedy sparkle!"; "The Three Stooges wrassle up a million laughs"; "A Columbia Short-Subject Presentation"; Joe is engaged, but he can't get married until his lost engagement ring is found, and the suspect is a giant wrestler, who beats up the Stooges, but Joe's girl beats up the wrestler!) starring The Three Stooges (Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Joe Besser), Maxine Gates, Harriette Tarler, Ruth Godrey, and Matt Murphy. Note that there is a distinction in this short, which is that it is the first time that Moe and Larry did not have their trademark haircuts (a bowl cut, and wild, frizzy hair)! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that there is a bizarre error on this poster, in the credits! In the movie made immediately before this, Joe Besser replaced Shemp Howard, who had died in 1955 (but bizarrely, the producers kept him in the shorts by using him from stock footage, and with stand-ins shot from the back as well). But with "Hoofs and Goofs", Joe Besser took Shemp's place. This was the next film made after that, and apparently they created their credits from a template (a saved form), and the template likely had "Shemp Larry Moe" and it was supposed to be changed to "Joe Larry Moe" (reflecting the change in cast), but bizarrely, the person who changed it made a mistake and changed the Moe instead, so on the printed poster it reads "Shemp Larry Joe"! Now we suppose that the person making the change might have noticed that Moe did not have his trademark hair, and he might have mistaken Moe for Shemp (and they do look alike, since they were brothers), but in any event, this is a remarkable one-sheet because it bills Shemp who wasn't even in the cast, and doesn't bill Moe. We don't know if they caught this and printed corrected one-sheets, because we have never seen another example of this poster! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
UPDATED 04/26/2016: Note that we have updated the Important Added Info section. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and minor fold and border wear. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well! Note that either the restorer who mounted the poster did not leave any excess linen around the edges of the poster, or possibly the owner of the poster chose to carefully trim off the excess, so that the poster would fit in a frame.
