An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Daybill (measures 14" x 42" [36 x 107 cm]) (Learn More)

Bijou Theatre, the circa 1910 daybill advertising the acts appearing at this theater. The main attraction was "Malvern & Cook", expert shooting artists, but among the other acts were listed "Motion Pictures, The Kind that Please the People". There are three different listings for motion pictures. Note that there are no names of movies shown, which was true of almost all turn of the century motion picture advertising that survives. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Important Added Info: Note that in the earliest days of motion pictures (at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th), movies were all quite short (usually several minutes each), and they were shown at vaudeville theaters and other kinds of shows. The advertising for these kinds of places were often "daybills", which resemble U.S. inserts in size, but were printed on one-sheet paper, and were sometimes double-sided (similar daybills were used to advertise circuses at that time). These daybills would rarely have any artwork, but rather would list all of the varied entertainments available at the show. They were put on the sides of buildings and on poles, and were completely disposable, and very few of them survive!

Condition: good. There are tears and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster and some along the foldlines, more so on the top foldline. But given that the poster is over 100 years old, it has survived in pretty good condition!
