An Original Vintage Linenbacked Stage Play Poster (measures 27 1/4" x 36" [69 x 91 cm]) (Learn More)

Pudd'nhead Wilson is a novel by American writer Mark Twain which was serialized in The Century Magazine before being published as a novel in 1894. Its central intrigue revolves around two boys, one which was born into slavery and the other born to be the master of the house. The two boys, who look similar, are switched at infancy and each grows into the other's social role. The book was adapted into a 1916 silent film starring Thomas Meighan, and stage plays (including one from 1901).
Artist: Ignace Spiridon
Important Added Info: Note that we tried hard, but we could not find any information about this stage play version of Mark Twain's novel that was produced in 1901 (other than what is given on the poster itself). It is interesting, but not surprising, that Twain would be so popular that they would advertise the play solely with a large image of the author, and not show a scene from the play or give much information about it. We have never auctioned this poster before. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had many folds and creases scattered throughout. It had some tears and paper loss in the top left green border that slightly extended into the edge in the top left corner of the image. It had some pinholes and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
