Always kissin' girls!"; "...and it's my girl he's kissin'!"; "Mitchum's Latest!"; "It happens in December...but it's hotter than July!"; "Mitchum in a new king of role"; if you want to know what is missing in modern movies, see this one!) starring Robert Mitchum, Janet Leigh, Wendell Corey, Gordon Gebert, Griff Barnett, and Harry Morgan. Note that this film had it's 1949 premiere in New York on November 23rd, and a wide release on December 24th. The plot was a romantic comedy set during the Christmas season, and U.S. movie paper from this first release was lighthearted in nature and featured the tagline "Baby, you're just what I want for Christmas!". However, it did not do very well at the box office, and to recoup their losses, RKO started a new campaign in July of 1950 while the movie was still in it's first release. The new campaign featured the tagline "It happens in December... but it is hotter in July", and the art on posters was sexier with a gritty noir-ish tone. RKO went all out on this new campaign, and created all new posters (by noted Italian poster artist, Mario Zamparelli), including six and twenty-four sheets, lobby cards, inserts, 11x14 stills, and more. Posters from the new campaign are much more rare than the initial campaign! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that included with this pressbook is the ultra rare second edition pressbook. The movie was originally released in the end of 1949, and in July of 1950, RKO decided to give it a full scale second chance at the box office, and they prepared all new posters for that 1950 continuous second release! We have never auctioned this second edition pressbook before. Also note that pressbooks were prepared prior to a movie being released. Often, changes would be made in a movie advertising campaign (billing of actors, different images, etc.), and the theaters would print up special supplements that they would send out with the pressbooks that had already been printed. These supplements are very rare, far more rare than the pressbooks themselves! Some pressbooks would have no supplements, some would have one, and some would have several. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook, and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The 1949 pressbook is complete and uncut and was never folded. This large pressbook (which measures 12" x 18") was never folded (which is quite unusual with large pressbooks, because theater owners would almost always fold them so that they could be stored with lobby cards or one-sheets).
