An Original Vintage Exhibitor Magazine (measures 8 1/2" x 11" [22 x 28 cm]; 24 pages) (Learn More)

Posters, the magazine published by Publix Art Dept. of New York City and sent to theater owners to help them better create local theater posters! It was apparently published beginning in 1930, and we know there were at least nine issues. Each issue was solely sent to the Publix theater chain, where each theater would create posters to put on display, often cutting up one-sheets, three-sheets, or six-sheets, and pasting them onto deco backgrounds. Each issue had one full-color silkscreen art portrait of a star, with many examples of homemade posters that could be created from studio-issued posters and stills. These magazines are incredibly rare and I have only ever seen a few different issues, even though I have been looking for them for decades. Please look at our images to get a sense of what this magazine is and what it contains!
Important Added Info: Note that this auction is for issue #9, which contains full-color Wellington art of Nancy Carroll on an interior page and art of two sexy women on the cover. It also contains 24 pages of hand created posters from several movies, including "Morocco", a completed theater front from Gloria Swanson's "What a Widow", and several pages showing artists mounting a Harold Lloyd "Feet First" one-sheet to a board, and then carefully cutting out the portion they wanted to use with an electric saw (see our images).

Condition: very good. There are creases and scuffs on the covers and some pencil writing on the back cover, in the top solid black area. Otherwise, the magazine is in pretty nice condition!
