Chargeurs Reunis (United Shippers) is a major French shipping company which was founded in 1872. It initially operating between Le Havre and the River Plate, but soon started a service to West Africa. In 1894 it began services to New Orleans and the Gulf of Mexico, and eventually offered world-wide service.
Artist: Sandy Hook
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this poster. We are guessing it is from the 1930s, and we would be very surprised if it was from after that (and it might be from the 1920s). If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had staining in the middle of the red star and minor wear on the folds. It had tape stains, creases, and tears around the edges, and a circular water stain in the lower left blank border. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. Someone mounted it onto linen with no real restoration, and after it was backed, the poster started to "lift" from the linen in the upper right of the star, where there are small tears, and either that area needs to be re-glued, or it could be much better to have the poster entirely re-backed, However, this will involve considerable expense, so please bear this in mind before bidding on this poster that is in much lesser condition.
