A Vintage German Softcover Book (measures 9 1/2" x 12 3/4" [24 x 32 cm]; 71 pages; approximately 200 tipped-in photos) (Learn More)

Olympia 1936, the 1936 German Olympic Games sports historical illustrated softcover book that was published by the Pet Cremer company in 1936. This is NOT the hardcover books (a set of 2) that were distributed by a cigarette company and which had extensive coverage of both the 1936 Summer and Winter Olympics held in Berlin, Germany and in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany. This book is entirely different from the above hardcovers! It has coverage of both the Summer and Winter Olympics (and since it has far fewer pages than the two hardcover books, the coverage is more condensed, but what it has that the hardcovers don't have is great artwork in the background of lots of pages, which show athletes performing the specific sports [see our images]). Note that all of the approximately 200 photos are "tipped in" (meaning they are literally glued onto the pages one by one). It is interesting to note that there is an equal amount of coverage given to the great American athletes at these games, including Jesse Owens and the other great black African American U.S. members, and also the white American members, so obviously, the people who published the book did not have the same prejudices that the Nazi Party supposedly did (we have not been able to confirm the perhaps "urban legend" that Hitler despised Owens because he was black)! There are no swastikas or Nazi references in the book (unlike the hardcovers), EXCEPT for a full-page split image at the front of the book that shows a close up of Hitler attending the games and athletes running from a building draped in swastikas beneath it. This is an amazing visual history of this most important Olympics. See our images to get a sense of how amazing they are (we wish we could have pictured all the pages, but the ones we did picture will certainly give you a good overall sense of the entire book).
Important Added Info: Note that we have NEVER heard of or auctioned this book before! Note: We have 12 images of the books in this set, but due to a space limitation, only TEN of the 12 images are displayed above. However, there is a "supersize" link to the right of those images that lets you see the other 2. Note that we have pictured the front cover, the title page, and the interior page that shows the publishing information, and one or more interior 2-page spreads.

Condition: very good. There are smudges and stains on the covers, with a few tiny tears around the edges. Otherwise, the book and the tipped-in photos are in really nice condition!
