An Unfolded New Zealand Travel Poster (measures 22 1/2" x 35" [57 x 89 cm]) (Learn More)

Mount Cook, the 1938 New Zealand train railway railroad travel poster ("World-famed Tasman Glacier"; "Take the train to Timaru") encouraging people to use the New Zealand Railways to visit Timaru, New Zealand and the nearby glacier. This poster features art of a woman with Mount Cook and the glacier in the background. Note that Tasman Glacier is the largest glacier in New Zealand, and was named after Dutch explorer Abel Janszoon Tasman.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.
Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare poster. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning!

Also note that this is one of 11 wonderful travel and skiing related posters that were recently discovered in Canada after having sat undisturbed for many decades! We had only auctioned ONE of these posters one time before and the other 10 we had NEVER auctioned! All would benefit from restoration, but most are the kind that do not need a lot of restoration, and after being backed they will display wonderfully (and it is quite possible it will be many years before we again auction even one of these!).

Condition: good. The poster has a very long uneven tear in the top right corner that extends from the right edge of the "M" of "TASMAN" to the right border 5" from the top of the poster. There is very little paper loss on that tear as can be seen in our image. There are many creases scattered throughout the poster. However, we would think that any talented restorer could easily repair the above defects and after a proper restoration it would display wonderfully!
