An Original Vintage Linenbacked Special Circus Poster (measures 27" x 41 1/2") (Learn More)

Sells Floto Circus and Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, the 1913 to 1915 circus cowboy western poster advertising the combination circus/wild west show. An advanced collector tells us that Buffalo Bill joined the Sells-Floto circus from 1913 to 1915, and in 1916 he joined the Miller and Arlington Wild West Show, so it seems quite likely this poster is from between 1913 and 1915, however it occurs to us it is possible that Sells-Floto continued to use Buffalo Bill's name after he left the circus, so we cannot be 100% certain, but it does seem likely to poster dates from 1913 to 1915. Please only bid if you can live with this uncertainty! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know.

Condition: good to very good. Likely sometime soon after it was made, the poster was mounted on to a thin linen and had metal grommets inserted in each corner. The poster had been folded once in each direction and there are three pieces of tape on the bottom of the vertical foldline. There are several long tears in the right border of the poster, extending into the "S" of "CIRCUS". There are water stains in the left of the poster (in the background only) and there are smudges and stains around the edges of the poster and in the white background areas. There are tears in all the borders and there are remnants of a paper snipe at the bottom right of the poster. If I owned this poster, I would surely have it removed from its current backing and have it properly restored. After quality restoration, the poster will look great, and there would be little actual paint restoration needed in the image or title area.
