An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Angel of Broadway, the 1927 Lois Weber silent New York City theater stage acting romantic melodrama ("From the story by Leonore J. Coffee"; a great story of a cabaret dancer who, much like the real life Mae West, is always doing shocking new acts, and she hits on the idea of pretending to be a Salvation Army worker, so that she can recreate that in her act, but while she is in her pretend role, she meets a poor truck driver, who she falls in love with, but when he learns that she is making fun of the poor in her act, he wants nothing to do with her, but everything works out in the end) starring Leatrice Joy, Victor Varconi, May Robson, Alice Lake, and Elise Bartlett. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Note that director Lois Weber was the first woman ever to direct a feature-length film (she directed "The Merchant of Venice" in 1914). She had been an actress beginning in 1908, and by 1916, she had become Universal Studios' highest paid director, and she had an assistant director named John Ford! In the early 1920s, her career went downhill, and she made her last movie in 1934, and died penniless in 1939. She is completely forgotten today, except by major film buffs, which is very sad, because she is an extremely important person in the history of movie-making!

Important Added Info: Note that this lobby card has been personally autographed (signed) by Leatrice Joy! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Our consignor is a very longtime collector of movie paper who purchased this item years ago, and it was signed, but he doesn't know how the signature was obtained, and he (and we) believe it is likely that the autograph is authentic.

As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes.

Condition: good to very good. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
