DeMille Date Sold 9/12/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Campaign Book (measures 9 1/4" x 12 1/4" [23 x 31 cm]; 48 pages) (Learn More) Pathe 1928-29, the 1928 Pathe campaign book, featuring upcoming Pathe movies and stars from movies that were planned for production by Pathe in the coming year. The campaign book includes lots of full-color images of ads (both one-page and two-page spreads) for the major upcoming Pathe films including King of Kings (Cecil B. DeMille), The Godless Girl (Cecil B. DeMille), Tenth Avenue, The Red Mark, The Cop (William Boyd), Celebrity (great boxing image!), Show Folks, Power (William Boyd), The Spieler (about circus barkers), Annapolis, three William Boyd features (The Leatherneck, High Voltage, and The Flying Fool), Phyllis Haver (three features, with images of the 24-sheets for all three), Junior Coghlan (two features), Forbidden Love (Lili Damita), Mack Sennett ("20 Super Comedies"), Smitty and His Pals ("From the Famous Cartoon Character Originated by Berndt", with great cartoon art!), Grantland Rice Sportlights, five Pathe serials (with great horror artwork!), Aesop's Film Fables (with great cartoon art by Paul Terry of Farmer Alfalfa!), and much more! Note that many of the pages have signed artwork, by many different (quite talented) artists, and that some of the pages have art by an artist whose signatures we can read include "Paul Terry", "Berndt", "John A. Coughlin", "Fredrick Madan", "Raymond Thayer", and "Laurence Herndon". Note that, because Pathe was wanting to be one of the foremost studios, they prepared a campaign book filled with beautiful full-color artwork! We have included images of the cover of the book and many of the pages (both one and two-page spreads; and we did not make a big effort to find the best ones!). Note that even though this campaign book was sent to many theater owners, it appears that very few examples have survived. I have been a collector of campaign books and related material for many years, and I know for certain that this campaign book is extremely rare! Finally, note that campaign books in general are extremely rare, and the best of them have often sold for hundreds of dollars, and in the case of the very finest, thousands of dollars! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned a hardcover version of this campaign book. This one has no hardcover, and it has cloth tape at the spine holding the pages together, which have also been stapled together. It could certainly be that the studio made this in both a hardcover and softcover version, or it could be that this is an example of the hardcover missing its covers, but an equally likely possibility is that this was originally an exhibitor magazine that had this campaign book included in it, and that someone removed the campaign book portion from that magazine, and then put cloth tape at the spine. Because we have never had an exhibitor magazine with this included, we can't say for certain. But it surely is identical to the hardcover campaign book we have previously auctioned (except, of course, for missing the covers), because they were printed at the same time from the same plates. Condition: very good. as noted above, this may have been removed from an exhibitor magazine, and it may have once had hardcovers that were removed. If it was created as it is, it is in "very good" condition. If it was one of the two alternatives above, it is in "good to very good" condition. Either way, the contents are in nice condition (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
