An Original Vintage Linenbacked Special Movie Poster (measures 20" x 30" [51 x 76 cm]) (Learn More)

Howard & Williams, the circa 1890s poster advertising two comedians preforming as part of the traveling Geo Dixon's Vaudeville & Specialty Co. This poster features a picture of the two comedians who pose in what looks to be blackface, by Liebler & Maass.
Artist: Liebler & Maass

Condition: poor. This poster has been linenbacked, but it was not well done. Overall, the poster was in poor condition prior to linenbacking. There are large areas of paper loss throughout and much staining from exposure to moisture. The restorer left pieces of masking tape around the edges in the borders as well as some pieces of tape around the edges of the artwork area. The poster was not well backed at all, because you can still see most all of the defects described above (in some cases, as should be immediately evident in our image, the linenbacker did no restoration to some of the defects), and if there was restoration of the above defects, it was not done very well. Certainly, a talented restorer could perform additional restoration (either with or without re-backing the poster), but it might be fairly expensive to have this done, so bear that in mind before you place a bid!
